Ya, I agree with SG here. They are only filthy/mean when they are kept in filthy/overcrowded conditions by humans. Otherwise they are clean, intelligent and social.
I'm reading
a book right now that has an interesting chapter on (mostly religious) aversion to pigs. The author thinks a lot of it comes from pigs being so similar to humans.
