2/12/2004: Man survives shark bite

full story

This comes via Fark. This shark attached itself to Aussie Luke Tresoglavic's leg while he was swimming. It started to shake; if it had been successful, it might have killed him.

Instead, he had the presence of mind to grab hold of the shark, with both hands, to prevent it from shaking. Unfortunately he had to swim all the way to shore like that. But he somehow managed to accomplish that... only to find that the shark had really clamped down and attached itself, and could not be loosed even with the help of others.

So he got into his car and drove - DROVE - to the clubhouse, where the lifesavers knew the trick: they hosed the shark down with fresh water, which caused it to release.

One animal's rage to eat met up with another's rage to live. I know that I personally would be completely shark food at this point, lacking the sense to grab the thing, never mind the will to swim and drive with the thing clamped to my thigh.
