If you can see an action causing you trouble in the future, don't commit the act unless your conscience obliges you to.
Never go against your conscience - as Martin Luther said (putting himself at great risk at the time), "to go against conscience is neither wise nor safe."
But don't knowingly do anything you know is going to cause you problems if you don't have to. (I'm well aware that this requires a measure of wisdom to begin with
