combat can be suuuuuuper simple.
rock paper scissors.
or look at Risk. roll d6s, ties to the defender.
you can make it infinitely complex, and there is a diminishing return pretty close to the Risk model, for me.
I like to play for the stories. The books, the dice, the miniatures they were all just the bones to hang the meat of the story from.
