There is no such thing as a perfect translation. However, there are several good english translations out there.

I would avoid translations into simple english, or easy reading versions, as what happens there is that the translator gives you the gist of the original, but you lose double and triple meanings, subtle word play, and detail.

Some Jewish groups make everyone learn Hebrew so that they can read their texts in the original language. Christian scholars have to learn those langauges too, or else they are forever at the mercy of the translators.
