The game play is wonderful. The environments are amazing until you get to Mexico (about half-way through the main story arc). It's still cool there, but not quite as polished.
There are a lot of reasons Mexico isn't as polished, but mostly mismanagement at Rockstar. At least according to an ex-employee in the art department.
Anyway, it's a lot like Grand Theft Auto, but in a setting I like better. The old west and cowboys are better than "gangsters" any day.
