Some of us who like a laugh -- surely a dwindling band in this increasingly grim and humorless world -- remember fondly the old "SCTV" series.

One of the funniest skits on the show featured the late, great John Candy and Pittsburgh's own Joe Flaherty as hayseed film critics hosting "Farm Film Celebrity Blow-Up."

Their bumpkin characters reviewed movies on the basis of only one criteria: whether people and things "blowed up real good." They loved films that had lots of explosions; they gave the thumbs-down to ones in which nothing blowed up at all.

Thank God nobody got blowed up in this one. Really!
