Ports are routinely large enough to handle a supertanker. That is not the problem. Problem is channel depth.
For example, Gibraltar channel may only be 13 meters. Supertankers may need 18 or 22 meters. That supertanker is probably not in port. It is probably sitting where so many sit to unload their cargo - in a nearby anchorage. This tanker is probably sitting in an anchorage in the Bay of Gibraltar which might be deep enough. Otherwise it is sitting the Med just off Gibraltar.
