The one thing that strikes me as odd is that he pushes the saw forward to make a cut and then pulls it back to make the next one. Circular saw blades are designed to go one way. You feed stock into the curve of the teeth of the blade, if you do the opposite the saw wants to pull into the stock which will usually dull the blade and/or stall the motor.
