Maybe. But, I have a similar reaction to most marxist analysis too - despite being a socialist :P

They are useful - I think in history certainly, those perspectives have widened the field enormously, away from a fairly stale and narrow focus on elites and so on. But they often fall into the same teleological traps. The march of progress and all that. Again, they offer useful analytical tools and theoetical constructs which can help tie seemingly very disparate factors and events together into some kind of understandable narrative - but going in with one very specific worldview can blind as much as it illuminates.
