I don't feel like digging the article up, but a guy in New York was prosecuted for using a pair of scissors to remove his young daughters outer labia.
This discussion came up once in a class in which we were discussing cultures and the role of the female, etc, etc. When I hear of female genital mutilation, I think of some third world country in Africa. Hearing that it happens in the US is new to me.
What religions demand this? It sounds horrific, but oddly enough circumcision does not. Hmm.
