Great Wolf Lodge

The kids' school runs on a different schedule than the regular ISD, including a week-long Fall Break to mirror the standard Spring Break. The really nice thing about this is that unlike in the spring, no one else is travelling right now.

So we decided to attempt a two-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge, a resort hotel franchise whose main attraction is an indoor waterpark that only hotel guests can get into, keeping the lines short. There's other stuff on site too, like an arcade, a spa for adults, and a kid spa for just nail painting. It's suburbanite vacationing at its finest--no nature, no edification, no unusual or inspiring experiences--but for young kids who don't travel well, it can't be beat.

Of course our main concern is always food, and so far it's worked out really well. I brought enough with us just in case, stored in the small fridge in the room, but it hasn't been necessary. One of the restaurants on site has gluten-free buns and pizza crusts available (utilized by Mr. Clod and my mom,) and the chef at lunch was very happy to cook some plain chicken and vegetables for me and the kids. At dinner we even managed to eat down at the buffet, because they had carved roast beef with no special marinade, raw veggies on the salad bar, and plenty of fruit options.

It's going so well, this may become an annual Fall Break thing.
