It works really well on a standard desktop as well. Anything with a Core 2 Duo should run it fine. I did try it on an Atom, but went back to XP Pro on it due to better drivers for the GMA500 display adapter.
A touch screen laptop does work best, but a $200 PC works well too.
The wireless issues are mostly fixed in 8. It will even let you connect to wireless, without being logged in. That is a big issue in 7.
