September 11, 2012 - Venus Passing the Sun

Quote:
The Transit of Venus 2012 offered a spectacular show to the enthusiastic sky watchers. People from the 7 continents gathered to watch this spectacular phenomenon of Venus passing the sun. This event will re occur only in the 22nd century around 2117 AD.

Venus can be seen as a small dark spot on the Red Giant Sun, like a bug on a large plate, reported Daily Mail.

Voice of America interviews Jim Green of NASA's Planetary Space Division.

Quote:
“Because Venus’ orbit is inclined to ours, we only see it at very special times when the two orbits connect to one another – we call nodes - and everything lines up perfectly. So this actually is the last transit that we will see in our lifetime. The next one will be in twenty one seventeen.”
