The USS Nimitz's ("boat 68") top speed is listed at 31.5 knots, while the USS Harry S Truman's ("boat 75") is listed at '30+' knots. You could waterski behind these fukkers.
However, the Nimitz has been running this race since
1972. The HST has only been in the race since 1996.
I'd say the Nimitz has a solid lead.
Interesting to note: Both carriers, separated by ~24 yrs, use the exact same propulsion systems. Two Westinghouse A4W reactors, four steam turbines, and four shafts, giving 260,000 shp.
