I prefer conceptual artists like Rothko. Here is the image with "Average Blur". It's deceptively simple - only the combination of sky, sand and water could combine to make this particular hue.
Because it occupies the same space as the original, it forces you to recall the original, to try to recreate it in your mind. But the deep expanse of joyless color is in many ways the opposite of the original, expressing an existentialist pain. Is the boy still there in your mind? Or does the power of the art wash him away? Each of us will react differently.
