It is a very normal thing to hear in the South, especially Atlanta, an exchange similar to the following take place:
"What do you want to drink?"
"I'll have a Coke."
"What kind?"
"Moutain Dew, please."
Years ago when I moved from up North, this boggled my mind and took me years to get used to hearing it. Thankfully, I've grown accustom to hearing, and even saying, "please".
