In the 'Good Music on YouTube' thread, I've mentioned the group Blackberry Smoke. One of their songs (
Good One Coming On) contains the verse:
"...throw in Ray Wylie Hubbard,
sing along to "Redneck Mother",
any blues I had before are gone..."
Well, I didn't know who he was, and had never heard of the song, which is actually "
Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother". So...To the YouTube!!!
While looking for Ray and the redneck song, I came across this vid of Ray Wylie Hubbard explaining what went on to cause this song to be written. The story is told at Jerry Jeff Walker's Birthday Bash a few years ago (I think).
It gets funnier every time I watch it.
Every great story should start: "One time we was at this hootenanny..."
