There are Englandy names in New England, Eskimo names in Alaska, but every state has its charm.
There are always names where somebody clearly said "This is my town, so it's gonna be called Undertoadville." But there are also bizarre names like Pep (Texas), Defiance (Pennsylvania). Pompeii, Michigan "I know, let's name our town after one of the most widely known major natural disasters in history!"
Or Bivalve, Maryland, whose tiny
Wikipedia entry sadly notes, "Bivalve takes its name from the oyster, upon which the town's economy once depended. Currently there is no economy to speak of."
