We officially became empty nesters when my last teen went off to college in Aug. My wife has been volunteering at the local elementary school with a friend of ours who is the school nurse. All the kids need hearing and eye tests every 2 years or so and they could use help during these times. Other times she helps out for half a day in the main office when she feels like it, one time a week. You might consider something like that for some form of social interaction. You could substitute teach as well, in you specialty you may be able to do the english classes.
