Oct 22, 2010: Incirrate & Cirrate

Yeah an Octopus, but when they're living down deep the names get fancier.

As part of a NERC funded project the deep-sea cephalopod fauna of the NE Atlantic was described for the first time (Collins et al., 2001). The benthic fauna is dominated by octopods, with incirrates abundant at depths 500-1500 and cirrate octopods dominating at depths greater than 1500m.
I can't tell if this is incirrate or cirrate, it's got features of both.

1500 meters, that's blowout preventer territory.

This one is definitely cirrate.

Aw hell, they're all edible.
