The Germans came up with a barrel extension for the infantry in the closing days of the war. Basically a curved tube that attached at the muzzle and let the soldier fire around corners, designed in mind of urban warfare. It fouled up quickly and eventually had to be replaced after a few clips of use. One of those last-ditch Nazi innovations that served as such nice templates for future development in the Cold War and, as we see, the present day.
