Oh, Dana's right. What a load of crap.
When I was a kid, I read my ass off. I also climbed trees, played baseball, football, kickball, bombardment, ghost in the graveyard, went swimming and biking, joined sports leagues, and a million other non-sedentary things. Yes, books were just as fascinating to me as the video games that came along later...but they weren't my whole freaking life.
When we got Atari, I was a teenager. I loved it, but I didn't turn into death waiting to happen (sinister theme music: duh duh duhhhhhhhhh) from inactivity.
If your kids are doing nothing BUT playing video games, well that's just bad parenting and is no different than 30 years ago if you let (made?) your kid watch TV 24/7 because you just couldn't be bothered to throw the ball with them.
