Mass cops are either awesome or assholes. You don't get any in-betweens. Personally they've been very helpful to me once or twice, but I've had some friends just get it up the proverbial ass for next to nothing.
Furthermore, I'll point out that there's a few areas on Mass roads, especially near Boston, where you are allowed to drive in the breakdown lanes during some parts of the day.
