My wife used to work at $LargeChainBookstore1, and one time close to Christmas this guy came looking for a book, and he got really pissed off because it was out of stock. His parting shot, delivered as he huffed out the door, was, "Well, I guess I'll just have to go down the street to $LargeChainBookstore2!" This seemed to be (according to the guy's way of thinking) the worst, most horrible thing he could say, but it didn't seem to dawn on him that the average retail store employee couldn't care less if you go shop somewhere else, because it really doesn't affect them.
