A large number if not most in the mainstream Republican Party also did not. McCain voters were mostly Republican moderates and independents. That is a serious McCain's problem - schizophrenia in his campaign. McCain is a moderate. His party is dominated by extremists which is why Palin had to be forced on his ticket. McCain had near zero support from Republican extremists.
It is a real shame what Republican power brokers have done to McCain who previously represented the interests of moderate and independent Americans - not who those party power brokers represent.
Unfortunately, a major McCain defeat may only further entrench Republican extremists at the expense of Republican moderates - such as McCain.
