I don't think it's stupid. I think it's a good idea... if you want your communication unsearchable.
It's a technique that has been introduced in spam spam spam spam, when the white hats learned to search for strings indicative of undesirable content. Then when the same message was communicated to our flexible brains via unsearchable image of text. Stupid? That depends.
Is it anti-cellar? Good question. I don't think so. Think of all the other images that would leave gaps in the conversations should they become unpublished, are they anti-cellar? Many of them have only minimal accompanying text, sometimes only a single character, perhaps a punctuation mark.
I think it's self defeating. I am not concerned by it. It will leave gaps in the conversations. It reminds me of a courtroom, where the witness is prodded to answer verbally after only nodding or pointing. The court transcript would not have the information in the record, despite the fact that all present who were paying attention would have understood.
