We had a few miserable vacations staying in hotel rooms at NJ and MD beaches, and then were invited by to OBX by a friend of my sister. We went as 3 families in 1 giant house twice and had a great time. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to go with us the past 2 times due to schedules/babies, but we enjoy it just as much or more on our own.
They did film the
movie in Rodanthe, which we drove thru on our way to the Hatteras Light, but it's way south of where we stay up in Carova (north of Corolla) where the horses are and the roads aren't.
I'm bummed that we didn't get a chance to check out Roanoke Island, definitely on the agenda for next year.
*The white squiggle on the horse's back is a common marking, Some horses have a lot of them, looks pretty cool.
