Spartan is safer. We're a nuthouse, not Club Head.
This is not the case in a lot of other facilities in the area, which provide a more 'friendly' atmosphere. We're about providing the best treatment possible rather than the cushiest. 'Sides ... if it was comfier people would WANT to stay longer. Our objective is to keep people hospitalized for the briefest period of time possible, and then return them to the community.
That is a ball, but I think it's only more toilet paper.
(We tend NOT to favor potential weapons on the unit, although given this logic no one has been able to explain the two pool tables in the gym)
That room appears to have been stripped for seclusion. The bed is bolted to the floor for restraints (so no furniture rearranging) and the side-table/cabinet has been removed. Point of fact, the toilet paper should have been taken out of the room too ...
The food (she said, ignoring the fact that the last comment was obvious satire) is actually not all that bad. Except Chili night. That's pretty grimmy. We don't have a cafeteria on site, but rather a catering service that brings in prepared meals. Holiday meals are up to restaurant quality. I've worked Thanksgiving and Christmas dayshift and had the turkey, also the patriotic holiday barbecues are pretty good.
Reading material is screened for content ... "nothing of a violent or sexual nature" which pretty much kills about 75% of what families try to bring in. No Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or Maxim magazine. Every now and again some wise ass will try to bring a friend a copy of
Silence of the Lambs or
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
