I have no idea how atheism can possibly feed on the fear of death when an atheist believes it is the end of known existance.

Atheists generally believe that human beings are evolutionally evolved animals. Like, say, spiders. You squash a spider, the spider doesn't "go up somewhere" and "look down and look after" its spider cronies. Its spirit isn't still felt by its spider family as a warm presence and it doesn't tell other spiders when not to enter the bathroom ("I just got a feeling it would be a bad time - it must be great-grandma spider looking out for me again"). That's pseudo Christianity, not atheism.

Neither atheists nor (in my experience) the Left have any "too complicated" life agenda to push.
