Is she trying to hatch the dog?

Was she brought home as a chick that could imprint on the dog? That might explain some of this. But she looks fully adult in this picture so I don't think this is the case.

I'm trying to imagine how they could have become such friends. What, did they save each other's lives or something?

Alas for the passing of Henrietta.
