i used to shoot (more than 10 years ago) and show landscape and artsy type crap and i was always a nikon guy. i stayed nikon through my different bodies because any old nikor (compatible) lens would fit any new model. i've still got my 35mm SLR and it is in fine shape, but i've been enjoying using it again. except now i'm doing more action and sports crap so i definitely want to move my SLR to digital. I'm thinking to stick with Nikon unless someone can give me a compelling reason not to.

Any thoughts?

I'm never going to shoot pro quality stuff again, so i just need a good quality body, with a fast auto focus and fast shutter speed. megapixels and that kind of stuff is greek to me so what are the minimums i should be looking at?

I'm thinking the D40X seems to be good bang for the buck as a lower-to mid range option. I'm just nervous with being digital that it will be obsolete and useless too quickly. I've used my old N8008 for about 12 years so obviously i like to hang on to them.
