Canine assisted crisis intervention is really for disaster and post-disaster work ... you send out trained handlers and dogs. The dog acts as an icebreaker, gets people talking to the crisis specialist where they might not otherwise. There's more to it than that, for example there's a particular crisis intervention/stress management model that gets used, but it works well.
Turns out that a batch of these folks are located in the next county up, and they are more than willing to come down for calls where we think we might be able to use them.
(this is for my volunteer gig, not my job, although it would be cool to have a dog at work)
