I posted this on the topic of Afghan Web originally, but there were some horrible incidents in
Chicago on Wednesday night. As of last night, there had been a handful of incidents here in Philadelphia, including one involving an off-duty police officer from the city. Chicago and Philadelphia both have large Muslim communities. I also pulled
this story from today's Chicago Tribune.

some of that is happening up here in canada and that's just terrible... an event like this really tests how multi-cultural a community really is and i think it's emerging that canada isn't nearly as tolerant as various champions would like to think it is.

My friend who lives in Toronto dispelled my original notion of Canada (a friendly, inviting place) when she came to visit in May. She said Canada wasn't friendly, just polite. At the time though, the discussion had nothing to do with racism. However, what you are saying kz is disturbing. I have always thought Canada to be ahead of us in the realm of racial harmony.

i am particularly disturbed at the media manipulation going on... many of you have surely seen footage of celebrating palestinians... well this may come as no suprise to some of you, but at least once piece of footage they've been showing is -stock footage- from 1991 when iraq invaded kuwait.

While this news footage being doctored wouldn't surprise me, I would not be surprised if some Palestinians WERE celebrating. On the other hand, I can say myself that I am overly surprised at the outpouring of emotion from outside the US. I really didn't think it would affect so many people so deeply.
