CO: Bounty Hunter/Repo Man
There used to be a show on TV a while back called "Bounty Hunters." It was this show that would show bounty hunters (official title: Bail Enforcement Agent) finding fugitives (folks that skipped their bail) and bringing them back to justice. MSNBC has a couple of documentaries about them as well.
Discovery and MSNBC both have shows featuring repo men. The one on MSNBC featured agents recovering cars, boats, and even an airplane...and they showed how these agents go about their work (what the work entails and what not).
And then I thought about it...I'd be incredibly good at some of the work--the process leading up to the recovery. The research, making phone calls, following leads, etc. In fact, I used to do collections work when I worked in Maryland. A good deal of that involved either using the various online phone directories out there, or by going through student directories on college websites...and sometimes, you had to be a bit creative in trying to get what you wanted. And when I finally caught up to the people, they were generally surprised.
I like that sorta thing...trying to find someone or something...it's like playing one of those adventure games on PS2, except I'm much better at the real world version.
But then there's the actual recovery--dealing with hot tempers, dealing with people with guns, possibly having to use a weapon (be it mace or a gun) to try and keep folks under control, dealing with various law enforcement agencies and jurisdictions, etc. Not that I couldn't handle myself or would be unwilling to carry or use a weapon, but I'm not sure if I like that part of it.
Hmmm...maybe I should start looking into P.I. work.
