I got a newsletter from the township saying they have inked a 12 year deal with Verizon. Because Verizon intends to offer TV/Video along with the phone and internet, the township has jurisdiction. They claim 15 other municipalities in the county are doing the same.
~Verizon has to provide free cable service to all township buildings, schools, fire companies and the library.
~Verizon must supply two dedicated channels for the township.
~Verizon must connect, at it's expense, every residential dwelling within 150 feet of the trunk or feeder lines, not already served by the FTTP network
~The agreement contains provisions for enforceable customer service standards.
~The service area includes the entire township.
This is welcome news, especially since comcast just raised rates while decreasing service..... again.
I wonder how soon? Let's see here, uh...start very near future..... laying fiber....Initial Service Area which is 94% of the township. Oh no....where zat?
Balls... 3 to 5 years for the Extended Service Area, which of course, is moi.
"Fiber to Premises" runs the fiber cable to every home, rather than to "nodes" with copper wire to homes. This is so they can bring me TV/Phone/Internet in fibrous splendor...... someday.
