I have been reminded by more than a few people who grew up hunting them that you never eat any squirrel which did not live in a cold-winter climate. Apparently with the inexorable march of suburban development, this population has picked up many diseases and parasites which were not formerly indemic and are no longer safe to eat although they may look fat and sassy. And any urban squirrel has been eating out of trash cans and dog bowls and are about as safe to eat as pigeons, which EVERYBODY has more sense than to do
