Here are the new "self-cleaning" public toilets at Atlanta's Five Points MARTA station. They're free to use if you've paid your fare. I was able to generate enough micture to give one a shot.
Once your inside, it's actually not so bad. Air-conditioning, Brian Eno-like ambient muzak, and two voices: one with an EU/British accent, and the other in Spanish. The floor is perforated steel. The flush was pretty powerful.
The hand wash unit could use a little more depth, but the wash, rinse, and dry features all worked well. Only time will tell whether they will be accepted and not abused.
