While agreeing that no one wants the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to be repeated, the judge said: "I haven't seen anything that shows me convincingly or with clarity that these men were preparing or planning any acts of harm. I haven't heard of any act of violence or propensity of violence in the history of these individuals."

"To be perfectly blunt, I know there are people out there who say if we let these people out and we have another 9/11 -- God forbid -- but that's a risk I would be taking," Schroeder continued. "I'm not concerned with what other people think."

Schroeder said his principal aim is "protection of probably the most valuable aspect of all, which is the Constitution of the United States."
Hey, if there isn't enough evidence to hold them without bail, they can always be declared enemy combatants by the President and locked up indefinitely in that dark place in America that doesn't have a judicial system. José can you see by the dark dungeon light ...

The developing criminal case has polarized Lackawanna. On one side there is the Muslim community, which generally sees the six young suspects as the victims of a witch-hunt sparked by Sept 11.

"There's no way they did anything," said Mohammed Ali, 20, a close friend of some of the accused.

Mr. Galab's father, James, a retired steelworker, said his son was no terrorist. "I'm almost 80," he said. "I'm too old for this. All I want to tell you is that my son is innocent. Completely innocent."

Meanwhile, the non-Muslim community is reeling at the suggestion that the enemy might have been living among them, eating pizza, watching videos, and dating cheerleaders at Lackawanna High.
Now, are they middle-eastern cheerleaders that the non-Muslim community is reeling at the thought of these men dating? What does dating cheerleaders have to do with but racism? That's what I mean when I suggest troubling parallels emerging in relations with Americans of middle-eastern descent that are similar to racism against blacks in America. Lock up yer daughters!
