Yet again.....the fault of humans. The hunter kills the cougar, the hunter says:

We can foster the protection of the cougar and re-introduce wolves, for one thing. I was nearly killed in a collision with an elk and spent two weeks in the ICU and was a year recovering from my injuries. A friend of mine in western Colorado was also seriously injured in a crash with a deer. When I lived in the small town of Nucla in western Colorado, I know of two people who were killed by highway encounters with deer. The road from Telluride to Naturita, Colorado (about 60 miles) is sheer terror to drive from 3:00 in the afternoon on. It consists of many blind curves and encounters with deer around everyone of them. I hit deer twice on this road and once did a complete 360 as a result of the collision and was almost hit by a large coal truck barreling down the road from the opposite direction. In both these incidents, the deer bounded off into the hills, apparently none the worse for wear.
