Here's the thing. If they were lying, they were vastly understating Hussein's brutality.

The atrocities that I have seen much stronger evidence for are much much MUCH worse.

Start with the lighting of the Kuwaiti oil fields on his 1991 retreat. Remember that little environmental hazard?

How about using chemical weapons on his own people?

Attempting genocide on the Kurds?

Using the money gained from illegal oil sales and humanitarian oil sales to build 14 - yes, fourteen - working PALACES for himself while the people starve. ($2 Billion on palaces since 1991. Formula sold to Iraq under oil-for-food was found sold in other markets throughout the Gulf. UN figured it's 500,000 Iraqi citizens dead.)

I saw one bit where his kid summarily executed thousands of unwanteds by machine gun. Don't remember the details sorry.
