This argument shows a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of language as a communications medium. Otherwise, there would be no need for a common language, everyone being content that he knows what he's talking about, and that's all that matters, while everyone else is aware that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I agree that giving words different meanings causes all kinds of chaos and miscommunication. Unfortunately, people do it anyway. I'm not saying it's a good thing.. just that it happens, and that people should be aware of this so that we can all communicate better.
