The time between Thanksgiving and New Year's is my favorite time of the year. By the end of November, I need a break from 70+ hour weeks.

I stay out of the mall so don't hear all that much Christmas music but I sure feel sorry for the people that work there. I'd go certifiable if I had to hear that stuff 8 hours a day for six weeks.

I'm not sure what to say about your bristling over the expectation of joyful participation. "Bah humbug" comes in and out of vogue every so often so maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be cool to hate Christmas this year.
