He didn't have the baby with him when the 911 call came in (from his ex who now denies she made the call) - he ran over to her house, said gimme the baby, ran back to the dealership and started firing. Even fired at his own stepdaughter.
I completely sympathize with the LAPD, who have only fatally wounded TWO innocent captives in THOUSANDS of standoffs in the last umpteen years (source= L.A. Times, so may be a bit biased, though those freakin liberals usually side with the "victims" so I tend to believe this stat). I commend them and don't fault them one bit for this tragic scenario. It was a matter of the greater good - take him out before he took out any innocent bystanders. The baby was a sad, sad addendum.
