You know what, I left my daughter in the car by accident once. She was about 3 weeks old and I was picking up a NY Times at Wawa. I made it almost to the door of the store before I realized I had forgotten something . . . .
Now is a different story of course with my kids old enough to go over to friends' houses and whatnot. But when they were toddlers & younger our entire freakin' lives revolved around getting those kids fed, put to bed, etc. The disconnect that would have allowed us to casually read or watch TV or something and not notice that all of a sudden there wasn't a baby doing his best to climb up a bookshelf would be unimaginable.
