So, I'm trying to install GD Library, but basically I have no idea what I'm doing.

My site is hosted on a server that is running PHP 4.3.1. I've read on the GD site that the app is included in PHP 4.3, but some config files need to be edited to get GD Lib running.

Can anyone give me a quick primer on what to do? (Should I install? Attempt to use the PHP version?) I don't want to fuck shit up, like I did when trying to update phpBB.

Please? I dunno, if you're ever in NY I'll buy you a beer, or maybe I'll mail a couple cans of PBR.
