No 3rd party would work in Iraq either now, it's Iran verses the Sunnis and the kurds will do what they want, there really isn't much else to it. If the Kurds go independent, then Turkey may just invade. Turkey that much does not want any independent Kurdish region. The politics in this region are that complex.
