8/19/2004: Interesting battle

I had resisted posting this one but we are light on images these days -- we always are, in the deep of August. There's just something about it you know?

Anyhoo, the official caption said Rick Roufus, left, delivers a blow to the body of Taro Akebono of Japan during the third round of the K-1 Battle of Bellagio III at Bellagio in Las Vegas. Roufus won the fight by a unanimous decision.

So the little guy beat the ex-sumo wrestler. Cool. See, sometimes the little guy wins. But wait, what is "K-1"??

K-1 is a combat sport that combines standup techniques from Muay Thai, Karate, Kickboxing and traditional boxing among others. The recently new formed division called K-1 MMA promotes fights based on MMA rules where techniques from grappling sports such a Wrestling and Brazilian jiu jitsu are permited as well.

Um ok.
