If only anyone used it anymore. All the soft drinks and nearly everything else that's sweet is sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). By 1971, that's pretty much what all the soft-drink companies switched to.
What's the difference??? As it turns out, HFCS suppresses the hormone that tells you that you have had enough to eat. This is why all the fast food joints and restaurants started kicking up the portion size of soft drinks - the more of it you drink, the more you can eat before you get full.
Its not a coincidence (in the opinion of many nutritionists) that the obesity revolution in the US and elsewhere in the world started in 1971 - pretty much the same time that HFCS took the place of sugar (sucrose - which does not suppress the "I'm full" hormone).
