Cordless tools are very handy but had many limitations. OK for light duty but easy to overwork, took a long time to recharge. A buddy bought a brand new one to do drywall work on his ceiling, set it on top of a 6' ladder, knocked it off, and it shattered on the plywood floor in a million pieces like it was made of ice.
They have made great strides, higher voltage, more torque, last longer on a charge, and the Lithium-ion batteries recharge so quickly you can stick around and be there for the explosion and fire.
But wait, there's more!!
Cord or cordless you always had to be careful of water. Stay out of a steady rain and don't drop or set in down in a puddle.
But now water doesn't matter up to 100 meters (328 feets) for most models and at least 50 meters (164 foots) for the rest.
You'll be able to drill hole in the bottom of your buddy's pool. Won't you both have a good laugh over that prank.
